Stenungsund is located in southern Bohuslän between Gothenburg to the south and Oslo to the north.

Stenungsund has become the centre of the petrochemical industry in Sweden. In the town square there are around 60 shops that are located by the water.

In early July Stenungsund has an annual musical festival with a large range of concerts and performances.

There is a guest harbour in Stenungsund.

Stenungsund Golf Club takes advantage of the mild Bohuslän winters and favourable soil to be open for play early in the golf season. The 18-hole golf course has large greens and gentle undulations.
